Specialists from the Laboratory of Neutron Physics at JINR confirmed the stable operation of the IBR-2 after the long shutdown. The reactor is set to undergo two more cycles this spring. JINR continues to put forward and support educational initiatives. At the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, the Institute’s employees acted as observers in the Model United Nations training workshop, and the Russian Speaking Club at the JINR University Centre discussed its first successes. READ MORE ➟ConferencesJINR at 40th Fortov ConferenceFrom 1 to 5 March, Fortov International Conference on Interaction of Intense Energy Fluxes with Matter took place at the Terskol village, Kabardino-Balkaria, near mount Elbrus. The speakers covered a wide range of scientific, technical, and methodological topics. JINR employees made two talks at plenary sessions and four poster presentations. READ MORE ➟PublicationsSigns of vortex excitations discovered in nickel-58 nucleusBLTP JINR researchers, together with colleagues from different countries, discovered that nickel-58 nucleus could host the unique and elusive toroidal dipole excitations. The results published in Physical Review Letters open up new opportunities for experimental study of atomic nucleus structure and vortex excitations’ influence on heavy element nucleosynthesis.
