On 20 March 2017, a delegation of the Vietnamese Academy of Sciences and Technology headed by VAST Vice-President Nguyen Dinh Cong visited JINR. Plenipotentiary representative of the Government of Vietnam to JINR Le Hong Khiem took part in work of the delegation.

At the JINR Directorate the guests were welcomed by JINR Vice-Director M.G. Itkis, JINR Chief Scientific Secretary N.A.Russakovich and Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D.V. Kamanin. Issues of funding of participation of Vietnam in JINR activities, steps on developing the national group of employees and involvement of young Vietnamese scientists were discussed.

The guests visited the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics. During a resulting discussion, attention was paid to enhancement of awareness of research centers and universities in Vietnam on the current status of JINR and its promising projects. In particular, the parties reached a preliminary agreement on holding the JINR Days based on the experience of similar events in the frames of celebration of the 60th anniversary of JINR.
