On 20 September 2019, a delegation from the Republic of Cuba visited JINR. The delegation was represented by a staff member of the Centre of Advanced Research of Cuba Osmani Perez and Councillor of the Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technology Agency Hose Luiz Dona. During the visit, Head of the National Group of Cuban staff members in JINR Antonio Leyva Fabelo accompanied the delegation.

The visit of the delegation started with the acquaintance with the scientific infrastructure of the Joint Institute. The guests visited the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions were acquainted with the Nanocentre and the DC-280 cyclotron. In the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, the delegation visited the production and research site of the Medipics and MicroMegas detectors.

The visit was concluded by a working lunch with representatives of the JINR Directorate, namely JINR Vice-Director B. Yu. Sharkov and Deputy Director of the JINR University Centre A. S. Zhemchugov. Ivan Padron Diaz, Director of the Centre for Applied Technologies and Nuclear Development, a Member of the JINR Scientific Council. The parties discussed the development of cooperation between the Joint Institute and the Centre of Advanced Research that had been launched by the visit of JINR representatives to Havana in March 2019. Participants of the meeting paid special attention to the issues of training highly-qualified staff on the JINR basis for the Republic of Cuba and other countries of Latin America as well.
