Video: prototyping new-generation lithium-ion accumulators
News, 13 July 2020
Nowadays, the Laboratory of Thin Film Technology of the University “Dubna” prototypes lithium-ion accumulators of new generation based on the technology developed here.
The applied results of this activity fully corresponding to the trends of the time became the consequence of research conducted by professors of the University and employees of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
The use of carbon nanotubes in accumulators contributed to obtaining unique results. First of all, it caused a record high value of the specific energy of lithium-ion accumulators.
“This work was conducted in close cooperation with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, and we used the method of small-angle neutron scattering to study the microstructure of electrodes. We have shown for the first time that their carbon nanotubes contribute to very effective wetting of electrode coating with electrolyte, and this influences functional characteristics of accumulators.” Victor Krivchenko, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor of University “Dubna”
More than 100 such accumulators have been already produced. It was a good engineering practice for students.
