School on nuclear theory and astrophysical applications started at BLTP

From 12 to 16 February, the Joint Institute is hosting the Nuclear Theory and Astrophysical Applications (NTAA 24) school, organized by the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics. As part of the event programme, participants – students from leading universities in 16 cities of the Russian Federation – will listen to lectures, make presentations, and visit the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at JINR with an excursion.
At the school’s opening, BLTP Deputy Director for Scientific Work Nikolai Antonenko delivered an introductory lecture on the history and main research directions of the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR. He noted that a special feature of this year’s school is that it is held for participants from Russia, the JINR’s location country.
Originally, the event has been since 2012 in cooperation with scientific centres and institutes of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association (Germany) as part of the “Dubna International Advanced School of Theoretical Physics” (DIAS-TH) scientific and educational project.
During the week, the NTAA 24 school participants will listen to lectures on the following topics:
- nuclear structure studies;
- fusion and multinucleon transfer reactions;
- nuclear reactions of astrophysical interest;
- novel approaches to nuclear fission;
- neutrino interactions with nuclei/nuclear matter and supernovae;
- cluster approaches to features in nuclei.
The school’s students will present the results of their scientific work. The school programme also includes an excursion to the Superheavy Element Factory at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at JINR.
