On 24 June, a literature exhibition will open at the JINR Science and Technology Library to commemorate the 130th birthday of Pyotr L. Kapitsa (1894 – 1984), an outstanding Soviet physicist and a Nobel Prize laureate for his fundamental research in low-temperature physics.
The exhibition will feature the scientist’s research on nuclear physics, physics and technology of super-strong magnetic fields, low-temperature physics, high-power electronics, high-temperature plasma physics, and works on the history of physics and the organization of science. The exhibition will provide an opportunity not only to learn about the scientific work of Pyotr Leonidovich, but also to delve into the world of personal memories documented by his friends, colleagues, and scientists, as well as by his son, Sergey Kapitsa. As noted by academician Yuri A. Osipyan (1931 – 2008), Pyotr Kapitsa played a significant role in the development of Soviet physics, not only achieving outstanding scientific results, but also contributing to the cultivation of the “spirit of objective search for truth”.
