Russia and CERN discussed directions for future cooperation

The 41st meeting of the Committee “Russia – CERN” was held in Minobrnauki of Russia. First Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Grigory Trubnikov and CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti took part in the meeting.
The parties discussed ways to expand the formats of scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and CERN, including prospects for the participation of the Russian Federation in the second stage of the modernization of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the development of the High-Luminosity LHC.
Grigory Trubnikov noted that the visit of Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to CERN in June 2019 gave an impetus for the development of relations between Russia and CERN.
The Russian party made offers for the development of synchrotron and neutron research and the implementation of projects in the fields of the large mega-science research infrastructure in the frames of the national project “Nauka”.
In its turn, the CERN delegation informed Russian colleagues about future initiatives, namely the creation of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIL) and the Future Circular Collider (FCC).
Moreover, Fabiola Gianotti added that the Russian Federation is famous for its scientists and scientific discoveries in various fields.
The 41st meeting of the “Russia-CERN” Committee was attended by representatives of the NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, MSU, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, the “Rosatom” State Corporation and others.
