News, 28 January 2020

Dear Colleagues,

we are happy to announce the 20th Baikal Summer School on Physics of Elementary Particles and Astrophysics that will take place from 14 to 21 July 2020 in a picturesque village Bolshie Koty at the shore of Lake Baikal, Russia. We invite students and PhD students specializing in HEP and astroparticle physics as well as early-career postdocs to participate in the school.

For a brief overview, this traditional School series is organized jointly by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) and Irkutsk State University. The School is fully international, so its working language is English. The scientific programme of the School in 2020 can be found on the School’s website. It includes introductory courses on various topics in the Standard Model, neutrino physics, astroparticle physics and multi-messenger astronomy, with a fair balance between theoretical and experimental lectures. A special feature of the School-2020 is a two-day neutrino physics immersion, during which lectures, Q&A, and problem-solving sessions will guide the students through this active research field.

The School annually attracts about 50 students ranging from brave undergraduates to early postdocs, including many foreigners. Information, lecture slides, and photos of the previous Schools can be found via the link and in the archive. In addition to lectures, the School’s programme includes intensive discussion sessions, opportunities to present own research, and plenty of time for informal contacts with lecturers and other students. Together with the splendid nature of Lake Baikal, this week will certainly become a memorable Siberian-style scientific experience.

The registration is already open, the deadline is set on 30 April 2020. Registration form is available on the School’s website. Due to limited facilities on-site, up to 50 applicants may be accepted. Selection of candidates will be conducted based on applicants’ scientific interests and recommendation letters from their supervisors or colleagues. Selection will begin in February, so the sooner you apply, the higher your chances are!

More details, including the poster, participation fee, and practical arrangements, can be found via the link. For any inquiries please contact baikal.school.hep.astro@gmail.com or Elena Dubovik (a scientific secretary) to budubkina@gmail.com.
