Reconstructed substation for NICA put into operation

News, 27 December 2024

On 23 December, the Institute received permission from the Chief Department of State Construction Supervision of the Moscow Region to commission the main JINR Dubna Distribution Substation No. 1 located on the territory of the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at JINR. This is a strategically important facility for powering the NICA Accelerator Complex. Due to the collider’s construction, the electric loads of the JINR technological facilities have significantly increased.

According to the Department, the substation’s reconstruction included the replacement of all electrical equipment, 110 kV overhead line gantries, power transformers, and foundations for the equipment. The reconstruction took place without pausing the facility’s operation, i.e. without disconnecting it from the supply network, which allowed the main energy consumers not to stop production.

As a result of the reconstruction, which started in April 2021, the capacity of the Dubna Substation doubled from 22.4 MW to 40.8 MW. The JINR facilities will take up 34.27 MW. The remaining 6.53 MW will be provided to other electricity consumers: substations of the central distribution substation of the Dubna city district, the Tensor Instruments Plant, and the Dubna Special Economic Zone residents.
