News, 18 December 2011
The Round Table Italy–Russia @ Dubna organized by the Embassy of the Italian Republic in the Russian Federation in cooperation with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the Russian Academy of Sciences finished its work on 17 December 2011. The Round Table discussion consisted of two sections: “Astrobiology: New Ideas and Research Trends” and “Black Holes in Mathematics and Physics”.
The subject area of the first section included a wide range of issues of origin and evolution of terrestrial life and life in space, existence of life in extreme conditions on the Earth and in the open space. A number of reports by Russian and Italian scientists were devoted to research of cosmic dust, and also the search of minerals and organic molecules in the open space. Much attention was attended to the issues of searching of exoplanets, carrying out space missions and possibilities of applying methods of nuclear physics to analysis of terrestrial and extraterrestrial objects.
The second section of the Round Table included reports on black holes in cosmology and astrophysics, connection of black holes’ formation and accelerator physic, and black holes mathematical theory. The important feature of this Round Table meeting is the co-presence of highly distinguished scholars from such scientific areas as supergravity and plasma physics, mathematical physics and space research.
The main results of the event are the establishment of new ties between scientists who work in different areas connected with astrobiology and black holes. A number of important agreements about cooperation between Italian and JINR scientists were concluded during the Round Table.
Participants of the Round Table noted the high level and importance of the event and round table meetings like this one and proposed to hold such events regularly in the sequel.
This Round Table which takes place at Dubna can be regarded as one of bright events that conclude the year of the Russian culture in Italy and the Italian culture in Russia.
