A session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of JINR Member States

A regular session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of JINR Member States was held on Monday, 25 March 2013 in the International Conference Hall.

JINR Director V.A. Matveev made a report "Recommendations of the 113th session of the JINR Scientific Council (February 2013). The results of the JINR activity in 2012". JINR Assistant Director on financial issues V.V.Katrasev made a report on the administration of the JINR budget of 2012. (Fragments of the report see in the news of 24.03.2013). Chairman of the Committee S.Kulganek (the Czech Republic) acquainted participants of the session with the milestones of the 113th session of the JINR Finance Committee. JINR Chief Scientific Secretary N.A. Russakovich reported about the elections of a new membership of the JINR Scientific Council and about changes in the rules of the Procedure of the JINR Scientific Council.

JINR Assistant Director for Innovative Development A.V. Ruzaev made a presentation about further development of JINR innovative activity; DLNP Director A.G. Olshevski made a presentation about prospects of research in neutrino physics and neutrino astrophysics.

Participants of the session took part in ceremonial events dedicated to the JINR Foundation Day on 26 March.

Reappointed Plenipotentiary of Cuba at JINR Dr. Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart attended the CP session. He visited the Special Economic Zone “Dubna”: at the scientific-industrial complex "Beta" at the site of nuclear physics and nanotechnologies and in the Congress Center of the SEZ on the left bank of the Volga.

The elder son of the Cuban leader has longstanding relationships with Dubna. Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart showed great interest in involvement of facilities of the Special Economic Zone in Dubna to implement scientific research by Cuban scientists, especially in the fields of biotechnology, where Cuba has great scientific potential.

Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov, who came to attend the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of JINR Member States visited JINR laboratories and the Special Economic Zone “Dubna” on 25 March. The Russian Minister was shown the new scientific-industrial complex "Beta", whose construction is being completed in the right-side part of the SEZ. JINR Vice-Director Professor Mikhail Itkis spoke about new opportunities of the new accelerator, cooperation of scientists and manufacturers.

Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation D.B. Livanov was acquainted with the NICA project at the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics; he was shown the DRIBs project at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions.
