Serbia-JINR: two steps forward

The 3rd Meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee on cooperation between JINR and Serbia was held on 22 April 2014 in the “Vinča” Institute of Nuclear Sciences in Belgrade.
A delegation from JINR consisting of JINR Vice-Director R. Lednický, JINR Deputy Chief Scientific Secretary D. Kamanin, Deputy Director of the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics E. Lychagin and expert of the JINR International Cooperation Department O. Korotchik participated in the JCC meeting.
On the Serbian side the meeting was attended by Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia R. Žikić, Coordinator of JINR-Serbia cooperation S. Petrović (the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences), researchers from the Institute of Physics of Belgrade Lj. Simić and M. Aničić Urošević.
In 2014, the Serbian government, in accordance with the decisions of the previous meeting of the JCC, planned contribution to JINR in size which covered the planned expenditures on existing projects. In connection with this an opportunity appeared for the first time to discuss the criteria for the effectiveness of cooperation, issues of long-term planning and financing of joint projects and expansion of their range. In particular, the project on materials with neutron beams of the IBR-2 was launched; participation of first young Serbian scientists in JINR summer practices was scheduled. This year, the Serbian side also suggests determining of possibility of scientific cooperation with JINR in the fields of radiobiology, distributed computing, nanotechnology and other fields.
The JCC Meeting was held in parallel and in close connection with the second international meeting on the Serbia and JINR cooperation programme on Condensed Matter Physics which is being held on 22-24 April in the “Vinča” Institute. At present, complementary opportunities of research with heavy ion beams of the complex FAMA of the “Vinča” Institute and the JINR Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions compose the experimental basis of this leading direction of joint projects. The programme which is being implemented now was developed on results of work of the First JCC Meeting which was held on 25-27 February 2010 in FLNR. The next JCC Meeting which promises to attract more international participants will be held again in Dubna.
