The International Coordination Meeting on Swift and Highly Charged Ions in Material Science was held at the Centre for High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) of Nelson Mandela University in South African Port Elizabeth on 8 – 10 November 2017.
The aim of the meeting was to evaluate the results and present state of cooperation between the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and the HRTEM Centre, and to create a blueprint for future collaboration including enhancing and deepening of international scientific cooperation. Scientists from the Belarusian State University, the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Kazakhstan, Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences in Serbia, and the University of Pretoria, iThemba Labs and Tshwane University of Technology all in South Africa took part in the meeting.
The format of the Coordination Meeting provided participants the opportunity to present their scientific projects and speak on the work of the employed experimental facilities in details. At the conclusion of the meeting, a round-table discussions were organized.
According to participants, the meeting was successful and became a starting point for further cooperation development between JINR partner countries in the field of swift and highly charged ions in material science. This Coordination Meeting thematically continues two previous meetings arranged on the initiative of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and Vinča Institute in Belgrade.
