We are glad to propose you to get acquainted with the book “JINR participation in the ATLAS experiment at CERN in 1992 – 2015” recently published by the JINR Publishing Department. The authors of the book are V.A. Bednyakov, Yu.A. Budagov, V.V. Kukhtin, N.A. Russakovich, A.P. Cheplakov, G.A. Shelkov, E.V. Khramov.
In 2009 – 2014, the first stage (Run-I) of the Large Hadron Collider operation was held in CERN with the √s = 7–8 TeV proton collision energy. One of the most significant tasks of the collider was discovery of the Higgs boson, a missing and fundamentally important element of the Standard Model of particle physics, and it was successfully fulfilled. The Standard Model was tested in its turn in this energy field with unprecedented accuracy. In addition, many other unique results of fundamental scientific importance were obtained. All of them were provided with stable operation of the ATLAS and CMS multifunctional detectors, in establishment and operation of which the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) took an active part. The book depicts contribution of the JINR staff to design, development, assembling, commissioning, bringing into operation and successful use of all major components of the ATLAS facility as well as to obtaining scientific results of fundamental importance. Moreover, participation of JINR in upgrade of the ATLAS facility and data analysis at the next stage of LHC operation (Run-II) is touched upon.
The printed version of the book is available in the JINR Science and Technology Library.
