We are glad to propose you to get acquainted with a new book “Essays on modern particle physics” published by the JINR Publishing Department. The publication of the book is dedicated to the JINR foundation day. (Dubna: JINR, 2020. – 335 p.: ill. ISBN 978-5-9530-0506-7).
Under the general editorship of RAS Academician V. A. Matveev and Doctor of Physics and Mathematics I. A. Golutvin. Compiling editor is Doctor of Physics and Mathematics G. A. Kozlov.
The book presents essays on modern particle physics based primarily on discoveries and results made and obtained at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) located in the territories of Switzerland and France. The discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 at LHC, which was an outstanding event in the history of science, is a common thread of the book.
In fact, the discovery of the new particle named after a Scottish physicist Peter Higgs, who predicted its existence in 1964, concludes the coherent and logical construction of the Standard Model of particle interactions. On the other hand, the study of the properties and the interaction nature of the Higgs boson with particles and fields of the world around us, the invisible “dark”, hidden from us sector of the Universe gives us room for thought and search for many decades to come.
The book may be of interest to a wide range of readers, first of all to high-school students, students, postgraduates and teachers, young scientists, and everyone trying to understand the way the world works.
The printed version of the book is available in the JINR Science and Technology Library.
