General information on collaboration
The Republic of Azerbaijan, as part of the USSR, joined JINR having signed the agreement on 26 March 1956. As a sovereign republic, Azerbaijan has been a JINR Member State since 1992. However, national science centers and scientists in Azerbaijan have collaborated with JINR throughout its history.
21 specialists from Azerbaijan and members of their families are currently working at JINR, though most collaborating scientists conduct their research at institutes in Azerbaijan applying methods developed at JINR and travelling to Dubna when required.
Scientific cooperation of physicists from Azerbaijan and JINR scientists continues to evolve, and gives an opportunity to Azerbaijani scientists to develop contacts with major accelerator centers around the world.
Subject areas of all the JINR Laboratories attract Azerbaikanu scientists. They annually expand the area of their scientific interests, the number of projects and experiments, including international ones, they take an active part in is growing. It should be highlighted that the interaction between JINR and Azerbaijani scientific organizations is permanently enhancing from year to year. Several bilateral memorandums have been signed between JINR and Baku State University for the last several years. This is an additional impetus for the full-fledged development of the cooepration between JINR and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The following international projects represent two of the seven topics on which collaboration is focused:

The languages of international communication at JINR are Russian and English. However, one can hear the speech in many languages in Dubna, including the languages of JINR Member States when the countrymen, the representatives of the same expatriates’ community (the national groups of JINR), meet each other.
Over the years of existence of JINR the national groups have developed their traditions, forms of cooperation and collaboration with other national groups. Their leaders, appointed by the plenipotentiaries of the JINR Member States play an organizing role in the life of national groups.
