JINR study guides on relativistic nuclear physics and heavy-ion physics
News, 15 July 2021
The JINR Publishing Department has issued two new study guides on relativistic nuclear physics and heavy-ion physics.
“Heavy-ion physics and its applications”
Yu. Ts. Oganessian, Yu. E. Peniozhkevich, V. A. Grigoriev
The basis of the study guide is lectures delivered by the authors at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI where they work as professors. The study guide reveals the peculiarities of nuclear reactions with heavy ions. It describes classical research fields with heavy ions at an energy of up to 100 MeV/nucleon. It provides the classification of heavy-ion accelerators and modern methods for registration of the products of nuclear reactions and radiation. The guide also presents the selected issues of using heavy ions in related scientific areas. The study guide aims at senior students and postgraduates majoring in nuclear physics. It may be also useful for specialists engaged in experimental nuclear physics.

“Relativistic nuclear physics
A. I. Malakhov
The study guide describes in detail the approach for studying relativistic nuclear interactions in four-dimensional velocity developed by Academician A. M. Baldin. It provides a brief overview of other approaches. The guide also describes the most popular modern detectors used for research in the fields of relativistic nuclear physics. It presents the experiments conducted in the Laboratory of High Energies (the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at present) JINR in the field. The study guide presents information about world physical accelerator centres working on relativistic nuclear physics, as well as the most significant physical results obtained there. The book bases on the lectures given in the JINR University Centre and the Engineering Physics Institute of the University “Dubna”. The book is recommended as a study guide and aims at senior students and postgraduates majoring in nuclear physics.
