JINR in development of scientific cooperation between Russia and Belarus

On 18 May 2022, Gatchina hosted a joint meeting of the boards of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and the State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) of the Republic of Belarus. JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov took part in the meeting.
A unique model of JINR was noted at the meeting, which makes it possible to integrate joint staff, scientific, and technological efforts of various countries. In addition, participants of the meeting emphasised the importance of the NICA collider being created in Dubna to attract young scientists from both countries to world-class fundamental science. At a side event, JINR Director met with Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Republic of Belarus in JINR, SCST Chairman Sergey Shlychkov.
At the meeting, JINR Director drew attention of participants to the optimisation of the procedure for approving joint research projects. “The organization of programme coordination in Belarus is always fast and constructive. We can learn much from relevant ministries of the Union State,” Grigory Trubnikov highlighted. He suggested taking steps to ensure an operational procedure for approval of scientific projects.
The event was dedicated to discussing the current state of and prospects for the development of the unified scientific, technological, and educational space of the Union State, as well as the implementation of the youth policy of the Union State. The meeting was held at the National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute” chaired by Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov, Minister of Education of Belarus Andrei Ivanets, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Sergey Shlychkov.
Participants discussed joint scientific and technical programmes, innovative projects, cooperation between universities, colleges, and schools, improving history education, holding the IV Forum of the Association of Russian and Belarusian universities and the X Russian-Belarusian Youth Forum.
Background information:
The Republic of Belarus, as a sovereign State, has been the JINR Member State since 1991.
Currently, 21 research centres and universities of the Republic of Belarus are cooperating with JINR in the fields of theoretical physics, particle physics, nuclear physics, and condensed matter physics in the frames of 28 research topics and projects conducted at JINR. 21 Belarusian specialists and their family members work on contract conditions in Dubna. The bulk of scientists connected by joint work to JINR, i.e. more than 150 people, carry out research in Belarusian institutes using JINR methods and developments, host colleagues from Dubna, and visit the city during short-term business trips.
Industrial enterprises of Belarus are making a major contribution to cooperation by creating unique equipment for modern detectors at facilities in Dubna and in scientific centres cooperating with JINR.
