JINR expertise for Member States and Partner Countries: the next step forward

On 19 – 23 June 2017, JINR held the 2nd training programme for senior officials of science and international scientific cooperation “JINR Experience for Member States and Partner Countries”. Participants of the programme were representatives of organizations of the JINR Member States – the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency, the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) and the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan), as well as research and educational organizations from the Associate members – the Wigner Research Centre for Physics (Hungary), the “Vinča” Institute of Nuclear Sciences (Serbia), the Universities of Pretoria and Johannesburg (Republic of South Africa).
The training course coincided with the visit to JINR of a delegation of school teachers from Israel which began on 19 June. Therefore, the first half-day of the training programme was held in an extended format. The working language of the training was English.
The training programme was started with an overview lecture about JINR and acquaintance with the accelerator complexes of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics. In the following days, the participants continued their acquaintance with the basic facilities of the JINR research infrastructure and the JINR University Centre; they heard lectures on the JINR research directions, the principles of the JINR’s organization and the practical aspects of cooperation with JINR; the participants met with leaders of JINR Laboratories. The training agenda was planned with account of requests of participants of the 1st training programme.
At the conclusion of the programme a round table with the JINR Directorate was held with attendance of JINR Vice-Directors M.G. Itkis and R. Lednický. Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D.V. Kamanin was a moderator of the round table. The participants of the programme willingly shared their positive experiences and plans for development of cooperation with JINR. The round table concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants.
According to the JINR International Cooperation Department, interest of JINR’s partners in participating in such trainings is growing, so the next trainings of this year have already been planned to be held in the first week of September and the first week of October.
