Organization, 20 October 2021
The JINR Directorate deeply regrets to announce that on 19 October a famous theoretical physicist, Head of the Department of High Energy Density Physics at Bogoliubov Institute for Theoretical Physics, a Member of the JINR Scientific Council, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Gennady Zinovjev passed away at the age of 80.
Gennady Zinovjev
18.04.1941 – 19.10.2021
As one of the pioneers of the theory of hadronic matter under extreme conditions Professor Zinovjev devoted most of his scientific life to the physics of hot and dense hadron matter, theoretical studies of strongly interacting matter, quantum chromodynamics and field theory, the dynamics of multiparticle processes, theoretical and experimental relativistic nuclear physics, and was one of the key initiators of the NICA complex construction.
As a member of a number of international scientific and advisory committees and an active developer of several research collaborations, including ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and NICA at JINR, he laid important foundations for the development of science and gained the respect of and authority among his colleagues.
The scientific activity of Prof. Zinovjev was closely related to Dubna and JINR, where over half a century ago he graduated from the Dubna branch of Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, and later on was awarded the title of Doctor of Physics and Mathematics at Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics. A member of multinational JINR Scientific Council for a little less than 30 years, he had been participating in determining the research policy of the Institute, thus personally contributing to the development of cooperation between Ukrainian scientific centres and our international intergovernmental research organization, as well as to intensification of scientific ties between JINR and CERN.
The JINR Directorate and the international staff of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research extend condolences to the family members, comrades, and friends of Professor Zinovjev and convey their words of sympathy and support.
The good memory of this bright man and wonderful scientist will always remain in our hearts.
