On 3 March 2021, a traditional solemn meeting of the JINR Directorate with representatives of the national group of the Republic of Bulgaria in JINR was held on the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of Bulgaria – the Day of Bulgaria’s Liberation from the Ottoman yoke. The meeting had a mixed format of in-person participation and video conference with the participation of Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Bulgaria in JINR Tsanko Bachiyski.

Addressing the audience, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov warmly congratulated Bulgarian colleagues on the main national holiday and noted how important careful attention to the history and memorable dates is. Tsanko Bachiyski in his turn thanked the JINR Directorate on behalf of the Bulgarian party for organizing the festive event, as well as congratulated his compatriots in Bulgarian.

Participants discussed the issues of life and work of Bulgarian scientists in JINR and noted a considerable contribution of Bulgaria to the development of JINR. They also recalled some outstanding Bulgarian scientists who greatly contributed to the scientific history of the Institute. Participants of the event agreed that a further increase in the number of Bulgarian representatives in JINR would be necessary and rational.

The parties also discussed the programme of the year of celebration of the 65th JINR anniversary, which coincides with the Year of Bulgaria in JINR to be held in the Institute for the first time. The JINR Directorate expressed its support for initiative proposals of the Bulgarian national group for events of the Year of Bulgaria and the JINR jubilee year. Head of the Bulgarian national group Plamen Fiziev suggested organizing a meeting of Bulgarian JINR veterans as one of such events.

In conclusion, Tsanko Bachiyski announced his intention to personally visit JINR at the end of March to take part in the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries and to get acquainted with the Institute in greater detail.

The Directorate of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research congratulates Bulgarian employees of JINR and their relatives on the Day of Liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke and wishes them good health, every success, well-being, and fruitful work at our multinational Institute for the benefit of science and progress.
