JINR at conference marking anniversary of Mongolian Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology

On 19–22 September, a delegation from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research visited a number of institutes of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) and the Nuclear Research Centre of the National University of Mongolia. The JINR representatives participated in an international conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the MAS Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology. During the visit, a number of agreements were reached on the intensification of JINR–Mongolia cooperation.

At the anniversary conference, representatives of institutes of China, France, Japan, Mongolia, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, the USA, and other countries discussed the optimisation problems, the theory of nonlinear differential equations, computer modelling and data processing methods in nuclear physics, oceanology, ecology, and bioinformatics.

JINR representatives, including MLIT Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov, LRB Director, JINR Executive of the Contacts with Mongolia Aleksander Bugay, MLIT Deputy Director Ochbadrakh Chuluunbaatar, and a MLIT leading researcher Alexander Gusev delivered reports.

The JINR delegation visited the Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology, the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and the Nuclear Research Centre of the National University of Mongolia. They got introduced to the scientific programmes and research infrastructure, namely the computing cluster, ionising radiation sources, and a radiochemical laboratory under construction. At the Nuclear Research Centre, the delegation visited the memorial office of Academician Namsarain Sodnom, who served as JINR Vice-Director and was elected President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and Rector of the National University of Mongolia in his homeland. A friendly meeting was held with famous Mongolian scientists, former JINR researchers Tugal Zhanlav, Sanjaa Budnyam, and Baasan Nergui.

During discussions with heads of the institutes and members of the Academy of Sciences, chaired by the Plenipotentiary Representative of Mongolia in JINR, Academician Suren Davaa, a number of agreements were reached on strengthening ties between JINR and Mongolian research teams, mutually participating in educational programmes, and using opportunities to attract associate employees. The parties agreed to develop a future Information Centre of the Joint Institute in Mongolia and hold events as part of the JINR Days in Mongolia in 2025.
