On 9 December, a conference of FLNP young scientists and specialists took place in the International Conference Hall. Young JINR employees applying to the competition of youth grants 2020 and staff members of the Laboratory who have won 2019 grants presented their applications and reports in the format of posters. The Commission represented by members of the FLNP Directorate, leaders of departments and divisions studied in detail presented works while their authors had to answer numerous questions.

One of the first specialists to evaluate the scientific works was FLNP Director V. N. Shvetsov: “First of all, we express our deep gratitude to the JINR Directorate for the organization of such a support for young employees. It greatly helps and encourages youth. After the first several years of practising such a format, we started to think how to increase its efficiency, how to assess acquired feedback. At first, we held report conferences in the laboratory at which applicants presented reports, but this format was a bit complicated. Last year, the initiative was introduced in the laboratory to make reports and applications in the poster session format. In my opinion, it is the right format as far as not all young specialists listen to the reports of their colleagues in comparison with poster sessions at which they gather and cannot but learn what their colleagues work on, ask questions. And the presented results, as you may see, are very impressive. There are a lot of applied or potentially applied works, or works that are even used already in medicine, industry. So, we should just wish good luck to FLNP young staff members.”

FLNP Scientific Secretary Dorota Chudoba: “The number of scientists applying for grants is the same as in the previous year. This number changes for 2 or 3 people annually among workers and specialists. Not only members of the Commission for grants have come here, but there are also juries of the Frank and Shapiro scholarships as far as laureates of the Frank scholarship will be chosen until the end of the week. Later, at the beginning of the next year, laureates of the Shapiro scholarship will be also determined. Here one can talk to authors of scientific works in person, to see what the youth of the Laboratory carries out. There were also young staff members who do not apply for grants or scholarships but want to learn about the works of colleagues from other departments as far as not everyone presents them at seminars. And here new cooperation may even be established.

Our Laboratory takes seriously such issues: grant and scholarship laureates present reports. Members of the Commission may get acquainted with applications in a digital format and if they have a desire and enough time, they may come and talk to the authors in person.

At the poster conference, 34 young scientists, 11 of whom with academic degrees, 11 specialists, 3 workers presented their applications, and 3 grantees of the past year presented reports.
