In 2019, at the initiative of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), 7 September was declared the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. Over the past five years, on this day, the world community has been calling on countries and peoples to raise awareness and promote measures to improve air quality and prevent environmental pollution.

This year, on 7 September, a webinar dedicated to the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies took place as part of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Advisor to the Directorate of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics at JINR Marina Frontasyeva spoke at the online event as an invited expert, delivering a report on the UN Clean Air Programme for Europe and its promotion to Asia and the Pacific Coast countries. The webinar, organized by the international community of women in science, Women in Nuclear Global Young Generation (WiNYG), gathered a large number of participants, demonstrating a universal interest in preserving the environment.

The event aimed to draw attention to the issue of air pollution and its impact on human health and the environment. The webinar brought together ecology and life science experts from all over the world, serving as a platform for establishing a community of active individuals interested in improving air quality.

In her speech, Marina Frontasyeva discussed the threats of air pollution with organic and inorganic chemicals. She also spoke about the environmental research of the Joint Institute on biomonitoring with mosses using nuclear physics analytical methods. Utilising these methods has proven to be effective in not only conducting air quality control, but also assessing the condition of soil and water. At the request of the young scientists participating in the webinar, she left contacts for potential cooperation.
