On 29 July, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Primorsky Krai and the Government of Primorsky Krai Dilyara Malikova visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. A meeting took place at the Institute’s Directorate to discuss issues of developing cooperation in training highly qualified personnel.

JINR Scientific Leader, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Victor Matveev hosted the meeting. Among participants were JINR University Centre Director Dmitry Kamanin and Head of a MLIT JINR Sector, Head of the JINR Information Centre at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Oksana Streltsova.

The parties exchanged views on further expanding partnership between Primorsky Krai and the Joint Institute in a wide range of fields, including professional development of school teachers and opportunities for schoolchildren and students. Dilyara Malikova noted that the Krai government is interested in JINR engaging in fostering students’ research careers and advancing science in the Far East, with an emphasis on technology transfer in the Primorsky Krai. She highlighted international cooperation with China as an important area of work for the regional government, since the Krai’s foreign trade turnover with this country has increased dramatically in recent years, including the strengthening of scientific partnership.

It was noted at the meeting that JINR and Primorsky Krai are actively extending their cooperation. FEFU students participate in JINR IT schools, and FEFU researchers take part in the JEMS Training Programme for administrative and scientific personnel. The Institute’s Information Centre, which has been operating since autumn 2022 at Far Eastern Federal University, serves as a gateway for Primorsky schoolchildren, students, professors, and educators to JINR. 10 October 2022 marked the signing of a quadripartite agreement between FEFU, JINR, RAS Far Eastern Branch, and the government of Primorsky Krai. It provides for personnel training and development of advanced technologies in nuclear medicine and research at megascience facilities, such as the RIF Synchrotron under construction on Russky Island in Vladivostok, which is planned to be commissioned by 2030. By this time, Primorsky Krai needs to train about 200 young researchers and engineers.

During her visit to JINR, Dilyara Malikova toured the JINR Basic Facilities exhibition at the Mir Cultural Centre and visited the NICA Accelerator Complex at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics.
