The Baikal deep-underwater neutrino telescope project is presented at the thematic stand of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. From 2 to 5 June, participants of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2021) will have an opportunity to learn more about the unique scientific facility and participants of the international scientific collaboration Baikal-GVD, the leading role in which is played by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) and the RAS Institute for Nuclear Research (Moscow).

SPIEF-2021 has started today in the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre. Delegations from more than 100 countries have gathered in St. Petersburg for the main economic event of Russia. This is the first event of such a scale since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The Forum is held in strict compliance with epidemiological safety measures.

The thematic exhibition stand of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation is dedicated to the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. The stand exhibits advanced scientific developments, including the mega-science project Baikal-GVD deep-underwater neutrino telescope. The ceremonial launch of the facility took place on 13 March 2021 and became one of the major events of the Year of Science and Technology.

Visitors of the Forum will see a real optical module of the largest in the Northern hemisphere neutrino telescope, watch a video presentation about this international project, and even use VR glasses to visit the ice of Lake Baikal in days of the scientific expedition.

Within the SPIEF-2021 programme, the exhibition stand of the Ministry also plans to hold discussions with the participation of JINR researchers: on 4 June, ‘About the role of mega-science facilities in international scientific collaboration’, and on 5 June, ‘Neutrinos: elusive carriers of secrets of the Universe’.
