AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club
Seminars
On 23 April 2025, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).
A researcher at the VBLHEP Sector of Physics of Strange Quarks in Nuclei Svetlana Gertsenberger will deliver a presentation titled “How to find ‘Something I know not what’: A simple experimenter’s perspective on the search for dark matter”.
Dark matter has remained one of science’s most intriguing mysteries for decades. Its elusiveness continues to captivate researchers, including scientists from JINR. The seminar will explore how physicists define objectives to detect entities that do not interact with ordinary matter. You will learn about the three main approaches to searching for dark matter. The discussion will also highlight the advantages of indirect detection methods over direct ones. Special attention will be given to the NA64 experiment at CERN, in which the speaker is actively involved. This project aims to probe “New Physics” and can bring us closer to unraveling one of the universe’s greatest enigmas.
