The ceremonial opening of the Chinese Centre (CC) of the Russian Academy of Engineering (RAE) was held on 22 December in Beijing in the framework of the festive joint meeting of the RAE Presidium and the branch of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The meeting took place in person in Moscow and Beijing, as well as in the videoconferencing mode. Opening of the RAE branch in Beijing aims to contribute to the cooperation between Russian and Chinese engineers, as well as to the exchange of talented researchers, scientific and technical innovations, and interaction of technical objects between the two countries.
RAE Academician Alexander Malahkhov, VBLHEP Assistant Director, Head of the REA Section of Nuclear Energy, and RAE Academician Anton Baldin, Head of the VBLHEP Sector, a member of the RAE Section of Nuclear Energy, took part in the solemn meeting online on behalf of JINR. Anton Baldin in his speech noted already existing cooperation with the Chinese Institute for Nuclear Research Lanzhou in the fields of applied atomic energy based on nuclear beams of accelerators, as well as briefly spoke about a recent JINR success – the injection of the beam in the new Booster synchrotron in Dubna constructed in the frames of the NICA mega-science project. Moreover, a long-standing friend and colleague of JINR RAE Corresponding Member Grigory Feofilov, Head of the SPBU Laboratory of Ultrahigh Energy Physics, also gave a talk at the event and highlighted the importance of the development of the engineering and technical cooperation with such famous nuclear centres like CERN and JINR.
“The development of the scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and China is underway in various fields and is very broad and multifaceted. And, of course, the engineering component in this cooperation is one of the key ones as far as particularly engineering sciences create the basis for all other realms, both science and economics, and the life of our society,” Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in China Morogin Viacheslav noted at the ceremony.
According to Director-General of the CC RAE Ding Zhifeng, the Centre plays a significant role in the scientific and technical development of both countries. Moreover, the Centre is going to organize the Chinese-Russian competition of innovations and entrepreneurship in the fields of engineering technologies. The Centre will also contribute to the transfer of technical achievements and the construction of new research facilities in other cities.
It should be noted that China is a long-standing partner and one of the JINR founding countries. It has a long-standing and fruitful history of scientific and technical cooperation with the Joint Institute and enhances it now. In particular, in August 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and JINR signed a cooperation agreement on the participation of China in the construction and operation of the NICA accelerator complex. This agreement has already given its first practical results.
The Russian Academy of Engineering was founded in 1990 as a public academy of sciences, which carries out scientific activities in the fields of applied scientific studies in various industries, including aviation, astronautics, defence, water industry, geology, resource extraction and processing, construction, light industry, etc.
