Bulgarian physicist Tsvetan Dimitrov Vylov started his work at JINR in 1968 in the Scientific and Experimental Department of Nuclear Spectroscopy and Radiochemistry of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems (the DLNP Experimental Department of Nuclear Spectroscopy and Radiochemistry). He worked in the fields of precision spectrometry of nuclear radiation, founded a new direction of research at JINR – non-accelerated neutrino physics. In 1984, he headed the DLNP Experimental Department of Nuclear Spectroscopy and Radiochemistry; in 1988, he became Director of the Laboratory, and in 1992, he became JINR Vice-Director.
Besides his scientific and organizational activities, Tsvetan Vylov contributed considerably to the training of high-quality scientific researchers: a number of PhD theses and doctoral theses were written under his guidance. Colleagues remember him as a very responsible, compassionate, and kind person.
To mark Tsvetan Vylov’s 80th anniversary, a series of seminars was held at the DLNP Experimental Department of Nuclear Spectroscopy and Radiochemistry, the first of which took place on 1 July.
