On Monday, 22 January 2024, the 59th regular meeting of the JINR Programme Advisory Committee for Particle Physics will take place at the JINR International Conference Centre. During the workday, members of the Committee will consider reports on the progress of ongoing projects, as well as proposals for launching new ones and extending completed ones. The Committee members will consider reports on the scientific results of some (mainly external) JINR projects in the field of particle physics.

  Programme of PAC meeting for Particle Physics

The Chairman of the Programme Advisory Committee for Particle Physics, Itzhak Tserruya, will open the event and present information on the implementation of the recommendations of the 58th PAC meeting. The Institute’s Vice Director Vladimir Kekelidze will present information on the Resolution of the 134th meeting of the JINR Scientific Council (September 2023) and the decisions of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States (November 2023).

The PAC members will hear reports on the implementation of ongoing projects as part of the NICA Accelerator Complex: “Nuclotron-NICA” (Anatoly Sidorin), “MPD” (Victor Riabov), and “BM@N” (Mikhail Kapishin), as well as the development of infrastructure, including the Nuclotron (Nikolay Agapov). Alexey Guskov will deliver a report on the technical design of the SPD Detector.

Responsible employees will present reports on projects ending in 2024 and proposals for their extension: SCAN-3 (Sergey Afanasiev), ALPOM-2 (Nikolay Piskunov), and DSS (Vladimir Ladygin). Proposals for new projects will be made: “FLAP – fundamental and applied physics using beams of relativistic accelerated electrons” (Anton Baldin), HyperNIS+SRC (Anna Korotkova).

After lunch, Boris Batyunya (ALICE), Evgeny Khramov (ATLAS), and Vladimir Karzhavin (CMS) will make reports on scientific results obtained by JINR groups in LHC experiments. David Chokheli and Maria Patsyuk will present scientific reports “Status of the COMET project” and “Preparation of the SRC experiment”.

The JINR Directorate will hold a closed meeting with the PAC members. At the end of the workday, the recommendations of the Programme Advisory Committee will be adopted and proposals for the agenda of the next meeting will be made.

Poster presentations by young scientists on particle physics research will conclude the meeting.
