59th Meeting of PAC for Nuclear Physics

On 13–14 June, the 59th session of the Programme Advisory Committee for Nuclear Physics (PAC NP) will take place at the JINR Scientists’ Club. During the meeting, the committee members will hear reports on the topics of JINR research activities and the results of experimental work carried out by the Institute’s employees. Young scientists from the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems at JINR will present their nuclear physics projects and the results achieved.

  Programme of 59th PAC NP meeting

PAC NP Chair Valery Nesvizhevsky will talk about the implementation of the recommendations of the previous PAC NP meeting. JINR Vice-Director Sergey Dmitriev will deliver a report on the Resolution of the 135th session of the JINR Scientific Council (February 2024) and the decisions of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States (March 2024).

As part of the meeting agenda, participants will present reports on work plans in the JINR research fields and the development of projects by the Institute’s scientists. Head of the Scientific and Technological Accelerator Department of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at JINR Vasily Semin will report on the status of the U-400M Accelerator. An FLNR junior researcher Nikita Kovrizhnykh will make a presentation on the synthesis and study of the decay properties of isotopes of superheavy elements Ds and Lv. Results of the first experiments on the ACCULINNA-2 Separator will be presented by FLNR senior researcher Vratislav Chudoba.

A report by a researcher at the DLNP JINR Mass Separator Sector Vladimir Trofimov will be devoted to the development of low-temperature detection systems for the study of coherent elastic scattering of neutrinos on atoms and nuclei and measurement of electromagnetic characteristics of neutrinos. A DLNP JINR researcher Ayagoz Baymukhanova will talk about the status and prospects of radiochemical research at the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems at JINR.

Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Laboratory of Information Technologies at JINR Dmitry Podgainy will present the report “Govorun Supercomputer for JINR tasks”. Director of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology at JINR Alexander Bugai will give an overview report on radiobiological research at JINR.

At the end of the first day of the meeting, PAC NP members will get acquainted with the reports by young DLNP JINR scientists on new results and projects in nuclear physics. The work of the PAC NP session on 14 June will be concluded with the adoption of the Committee’s recommendations and the formation of a proposal for the agenda of the next meeting.
