On 15 February, the Republic of Serbia, an Associate Member of the Joint Institute, celebrates the Statehood Day, its main national holiday.

Ties between JINR and Serbian scientists have existed for a very long time. Researchers from Serbia closely cooperate with BLTP, VBLHEP, FLNP, and FLNR. Relations between Serbia and the Institute were strengthened by signing the Agreement between JINR and the Ministry of Science and Environment of Serbia. Later on, in 2019, the signed Roadmap continued the cooperation enhancement. Another significant stage was the recent signing of the Action Plan for advance of the Republic of Serbia to full membership in the Joint Institute. The Roadmap includes the consideration of the accession of the Republic of Serbia to JINR in a year, at the November CP session in 2022.
