From 10 to 30 October, the exhibition hall of the JINR Cultural Centre “Mir” will host the photo exhibition “Baikal. Neutrino hunters” dedicated to the 65th anniversary of JINR.

The author of photos is Bair Shaibonov, a regular participant of expeditions to lake Baikal, a senior researcher at the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems.

On 10 October, at 3.00 PM, the opening ceremony of the exhibition will be held in the exhibition hall of the JINR Cultural Centre “Mir”.

The exhibition will be open daily from 3 PM to 7 PM. Admission is free.

The Baikal Neutrino Telescope, a unique physical facility which is the largest one in the Northern hemisphere, is under construction at lake Baikal. The tasks of this telescope are enormous: using neutrinos, scientists want to look several billion years back in the past of our Universe in one of the hottest epochs, namely the epoch of galaxy formation.

The Baikal Neutrino Telescope is being constructed today by the efforts of the international collaboration in which the RAS Institute for Nuclear Research ( Moscow), the initiator of the experiment and the founder of the field “neutrino astronomy” in the world, and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research ( Dubna) play a leading role. In total, more than 70 scientists and engineers from a dozen scientific centres of Russia, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia take part in the project.

The photo exhibition will demonstrate how the facility is being deployed at lake Baikal, the conditions in which scientists work during expeditions, how the optical module looks like. And, of course, you will see marvellous photos of the most beautiful lake in the world.
