On 8 February 2019, Governor of the Moscow Region Andrey Vorobyev, Rector of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University Anatoly Alexandrov, Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) Victor Matveev signed the agreement on cooperation according to which the International School of Engineering will be opened in Dubna. The signing ceremony was held in the House of the Government of the Moscow Region according to the press office of the Governor and Government of the Moscow region.

“We sign a trilateral agreement between the Government of the Moscow Region, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University on the joint development of the International School of Engineering in the Moscow Region. We expect the School will provide not less than 20 engineers-physicists annually for work at the collider,” Governor Vorobyev said at the ceremonial event in the House of the regional government.

“Today, the Day of Russian Science is celebrated, and it is symbolic that we have signed such an agreement on this day. Our University “Dubna”, the Korolev Polytechnic University are developing. This is crucially important. The Bauman University is an acknowledged leader in training scientific and technical staff. I am very pleased that the Institute for Nuclear Physics, the community work on the discovery of new scientific stars. This event just formalizes cooperation, work has been conducted earlier as well,” Governor Vorobyev said to journalists.

As Rector of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University Anatoly Alexandrov noted the agreement is aimed at the future because new technologies will not be designed until engineers will come to fundamental science.

“Training of the youth is a joint task. We know how to prepare young people to a big scientific life and we can do it. Cooperation has started long ago, it includes not only the student community but joint research, work with scientific-research and R&D projects. Implementation of the project is a separate task in fact,” Rector Alexandrov said.

JINR Director Victor Matveev added that graduates of the International School of Engineering will be engaged in the implementation of the projects of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, in particular, the Factory of superheavy elements, the NICA collider as well as in work of residents of the Special Economic Zone “Dubna”.

“The school will start its work next week. We have already started developing test programmes jointly with colleagues from the Bauman University. Classes on this course have been held in the test mode. To enter the School, one needs to be talented, motivated; an applicant should have the desire to be engaged in science, do something by hands, his eyes must shine. We have an additional selection among students of the Dubna University, we choose the most talented. We have selected 35 people but there were two times more willing to enter the School. We hope that all of them will finish the School,” Rector of the Dubna University Dmitry Fursaev noted.

Earlier on Friday, Governor of the Moscow Region Andrey Vorobyev presented state and regional awards to the best scientists of the Moscow Region on the occasion of the Day of Russian Science celebrated on 8 February.

Scientific Leader of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions JINR, RAS Academician, Professor, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Yuri Tsolakovich Oganessian from Dubna was awarded the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, 2nd degree.

Director of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology JINR, RAS Corresponding Member, Professor, Doctor of Biology from Dubna Evgeny Krasavin as well as Director of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions JINR, Professor, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics from Dubna Sergey Dmitriev were awarded the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, 1st class.
