On 13 – 14 February, Academician Secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Informatics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Shumilin is visiting the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. On the first day, at a meeting with the JINR Directorate, in a festive setting, Alexander Shumilin received the Order of Friendship for his contribution to the strengthening of scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and the Republic of Belarus.

On behalf of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov presented the award to the Academician of the NAS of Belarus. The initiative of presenting the awardee with the order came from Dubna. During
2014 – 2022 Alexander Shumilin was the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Belarus at JINR.

Accepting the congratulations by the JINR Director, Alexander Shumilin said, “Science is always aimed at asking and answering the questions of all mankind. I am pleased to receive such an award, it is quite symbolic.” He added that in his new position he continues developing relations with JINR and implement a number of projects with Russian colleagues. “We will enhance our cooperation. Our governments have started paying much more attention to science,” he stressed.

The visit of the representative of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is dedicated to business issues of strengthening cooperation between the Institute and two branches of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. During the visit, Alexander Shumilin will visit the JINR Laboratories of Information Technologies, Nuclear Reactions, and High Energy Physics, where he will be given tours of the Govorun Supercomputer, the Superheavy Element Factory, and the NICA Accelerator Complex. A number of business meetings is planned.
