The past week marked notable scientific and cultural events at the Institute. A joint workshop with the Institute of Modern Physics of China took place at VBLHEP at JINR to discuss key projects and prospects for cooperation in accelerator complex development.

Cooperation

JINR–IMP CAS joint workshop held at VBLHEP

On 21 February, a workshop on superconducting cavities took place at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at JINR as part of collaboration with the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The parties discussed key projects and cooperation prospects in the development of accelerator complexes.

Visitors from leading universities of Russia at MLIT JINR

Last week, representatives of the Moscow State University, the Higher School of Economics, and the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia visited the Laboratory of Information Technologies at JINR. The guests got acquainted with the MLIT scientific areas, NICA Accelerator Complex, MICC, and discussed cooperation opportunities.

Publications

FLNR JINR designed device for GASSOL Separator optimisation

Scientists at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at JINR created and tested a beam profilometer to be used at the entrance of the GASSOL Gas-Filled Solenoid during its adjustment and launch. The new device is designed to control the position, scale, and intensity of the ion beam in real time.

Ionisation chambers for applied research at NICA Complex developed

Research team including a VBLHEP JINR senior researcher Nelli Pukhaeva developed ionisation chambers for monitoring high energy heavy ion intense beams. The chambers are intended for the long-term irradiation station at the BM@N Experiment site at NICA.

Lunar New Year celebrated at JINR

On 15 February, the JINR International Cooperation Department, the Council of National Groups, and colleagues from Vietnam, Mongolia, South Korea, and China organized an event celebrating the Lunar New Year. More than 200 people from 18 countries participated in the celebration.

Registration for GRID’2025 conference opens

From 7 to 11 July, the Laboratory of Information Technologies at JINR will hold the international conference entitled “Distributed Computing and Grid Technologies in Science and Education” (GRID’2025). Registration is available until 30 May.

Nucleus-2025 conference invites applications

From 1 to 6 July, the 75th International Conference “Nucleus-2025. Nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, and nuclear technologies” will take place at the Saint Petersburg State University. The registration and abstract submission are available on the conference website. Registration deadline is 30 May.

2024 OGANESSON Prize laureates awarded in Moscow

Please enjoy a video about the second award ceremony of the OGANESSON Prize, which took place on 14 February at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow. The Prize was established in 2023 by RAS Academician Yuri Oganessian and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research to support scientists and science popularisers.

A day in JINR life

Every week, the JINR Telegram channel shares archival photos of the Institute. We invite you to look at the IBR-2 Reactor Hall photographed 21 years ago, in February 2004. In 2021, the IBR-2 was shut down due to repair, and this month, the facility was put into operation at its design capacity.

JINR skiing achievements

The JINR team secured the bronze medal in the cross-country skiing relay dedicated to Alexander Bereznyak, competing among organizations of Dubna. The Institute was represented by Alexey Butorin (VBLHEP), Maria Alikina (JINR Sports Club), and Artem Svintsitsky (VBLHEP). Congratulations to the athletes on their successful performance!

26th JINR Sports Games: volleyball

On 22 February, the round-robin volleyball tournament as part of the 26th JINR Sports Games finished. This year, six teams took part in the event. On 26 March, matches for the first and the third places will be held at the JINR Sports Club.
