JINR Newsletter #48, 19 December 2024Dear colleagues and friends, The past week’s highlights were a number of events and scientific achievements. The IASEN Symposium on Exotic Nuclei, organized by JINR and iThemba LABS, successfully fihished in South Africa. And in China, with the active participation of the Institute’s employees, the central detector of the JUNO Neutrino Experiment was put into operation. The Laboratory of Nuclear Problems at JINR celebrated its 75th anniversary. In honour of the memorable date, more than 30 employees of the Institute received various awards. Governing BodiesJINR Science and Technology Council meetingThe meeting will take place tomorrow, on 20 December, at the JINR International Conference Centre. Participants of the event will review research results obtained during 2024 and discuss the prospects for the year ahead. READ MORE ➟ConferencesInternational symposium on exotic nuclei finished in South AfricaFrom 9 to 13 December, the 2nd International African Symposium on Exotic Nuclei, IASEN-2024, took place in Gordons Bay, Cape Town. It was organized by the iThemba LABS and JINR. More than 120 specialists gathered to discuss the research on nuclei under extreme conditions. READ MORE ➟AnniversariesAnniversary of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems at JINR: 75 years of Dubna’s scientific historyOn 14 December, DLNP employees and veterans, along with colleagues from other scientific centres, gathered to congratulate each other at the Mir Cultural Centre. As part of the event, 34 employees of the Institute were honoured with various awards. READ MORE ➟ResearchImportant development stage of JUNO Experiment finishesYesterday, the central detector of JUNO – a large-scale international experiment aimed at studying reactor electron antineutrinos – has been successfully commissioned. Researchers of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems at JINR actively participate in the development of the project. READ MORE ➟Volcanic emissions effect on human studied in JINRScientists of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research studied the elemental and radioisotopic composition of the Shiveluch volcano ash in Russia. The data obtained made it possible to assess the potential health hazards in areas affected by the ash fall. The results were published in the Journal of Environmental Management. Most bibliographic descriptions are supplemented by links to the full texts of the papers. In addition, there are statistical tables on authors, topics, and types of publications. The event is a part of the series of popular science lectures “It’s time for PAN (Particles and Atomic Nuclei)”.
