The Institute’s biannual Programme Advisory Committees’ meetings started this week. On 20 January, members of the PAC for Particle Physics discussed the progress of the construction of the NICA Collider, the initiation of a new neutrino physics project, and the results of international collaborations’ work.

In the latest issue of the JINR Newsletter, you will find new R&D publications by Institute’s scientists, an educational video about accelerators with a JINR researcher, the January literature exhibition in the Science and Technology Library, and much more.

60th meeting of JINR Programme Advisory Committee for Nuclear Physics

The event will take place on 23–24 January at the JINR International Conference Centre. The PAC members will discuss the progress of the JINR nuclear physics projects and main facilities.

Cooperation

JINR at 25th JUNO Collaboration Meeting

Ten scientists of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems and the Laboratory of Information Technologies represented JINR at the event on 13–17 January in China. The meeting focused on the issues of commissioning the detector.

Publications

Device for producing material for cryogenic neutron moderators

The JINR Publishing Department has issued a preprint entitled “Operating principles of a device for producing dispersed moderating material in the form of balls for cryogenic neutron moderators” by FLNP scientists. The study focuses on physical effects occurring during the production of dispersed moderating substance for cryogenic neutron moderators of the IBR-2M Reactor.

New tellurium-containing scintillators advance search for neutrinoless double beta decay

Employees of the DLNP Scientific and Experimental Department of Nuclear Spectroscopy and Radiochemistry and Dubna State University presented the first results of the development of formerly unknown tellurium-containing plastic scintillators in detectors designed to search for neutrinoless double beta decay.

Science lectures for schoolchildren

The JINR University Centre invites schoolchildren from 7 to 11 grades (over 12 y. o.) to take part in the S’cool Science project. Both onsite and online classes are available. The lectures are free. You can find more details via the link.
