Yuri Oganessian became a member of the Council of Elders

The Council of Elders, a new body of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is a group of outstanding scientists of the elderly generation (above 80 years of age) who have considerable experience. Their mission is to use their valuable experience for giving recommendations to the Academy’s leadership and other RAS members in terms of science, science organization, and during structural reforms, in particular.
The Council of Elders is formed by RAS President and comprises 18 most decent and honourable academicians from various fields of science.
The first composition of the Council is headed by Academician Aleksey Rozanov, Academician-Secretary of the RAS Department of Biological Sciences, President of the Russian Paleontological Society. Among other 17 most famous Russian scientists the Council is comprised of are: Nikolai Kardashev (Director of the Astro Space Centre of LPI RAS), Yuri Oganessian (Scientific Leader of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions JINR) and others.
