Winter school on many-particle systems starts at BLTP
News, 29 January 2024
On 29 January, the XVIII Winter School “Many-particle systems: from condensed matter to quarks and stars” opened in a mixed format at the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR. The event was organized by BLTP within the framework of the project “Dubna International School of Modern Theoretical Physics (DIAS-Th)”. The School’s programme integrates many-particle systems from cold fermion gases to neutron stars and quark-gluon matter. The participants of the School will learn about the properties of compact stars, discuss phase transitions, vacuum instability and the problem of confinement in quantum chromodynamics.
“This year, the School is distinguished by the unusual geography of participants. In addition to students, graduate students and young scientists from leading Russian universities and research centres, a large group of students from Bosphorus University from Istanbul, Turkey will take part in it,” one of the organizers of the event, Head of the Quantum Gravity, Cosmology and Strings Sector of BLTP, leading researcher at the School DIAS-Th Irina Pirozhenko noted.
Young theorists will be delivered lectures in the following areas:
- theoretical description of interacting fermionic systems;
- cold fermionic gases;
- vacuum instabilities and phase transitions;
- properties of QCD matter;
- quark-gluon confinement problem;
- properties of compact stars.
Almost every day at School is summed up by a general discussion.
The School is taking place in the Conference Hall of the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and will last until 3 February. Participants can join the event via the BLTP live video broadcast. Working languages are Russian and English.
