The 45th meeting of the Programme Advisory Committee for Condensed Matter Physics is being held on 19-20 January in the International Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Professor V. Kantser (Moldova). He opened the meeting with information on the implementation of the previous PAC CMP meeting.

JINR Vice-Director M.G. Itkis informed participants of the meeting on the milestones of the 120th Session of the JINR Scientific Council (September 2016) and the decisions of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries (November 2016). V.L. Aksenov acquainted PAC members with the scientific rationale for a new project “Development of a concept for JINR’s new neutron source”.

D.P. Kozlenko devoted his report to the main scientific and methodological results of condensed matter studies at the IBR-2 facility in 2016. I.A. Bobrikov spoke about the progress towards modernization of the HRFD diffractometer.

The programme of the PAC CMP included reports on themes and projects which were presented by Gh. Adam, S.Z. Pakuliak, Yu.A. Panebrattsev. O.V. Belov spoke about development of applied research at the NICA complex. A.I. Kuklin, M. Balasoiu and E.I. Litvinenko gave reviews of conferences, scientific schools and training courses on topics of the Programme Committee which were held in 2016.

On 20 January, the PAC programme includes the following scientific reports: E.V. Zemlyanaya “Numerical investigation of vesicular systems and pion-nucleus scattering within the asynchronous differential evolution method”; E.A. Goremychkin “Spine dynamics in compounds with intermediate valence: comparison of inelastic scattering results to ab initio theory”; G.N. Timoshenko “Forecasting the NICA complex radiation environment”.

Traditionally the agenda of the PAC includes poster presentations of young scientists, award of the authors of the best poster presentations made at the previous PAC meeting, a general discussion and adoption of the PAC recommendations.
