Visit of Sri Lanka State Minister of Science, Technology and Research

On 4 – 6 September 2017, JINR was visited by State Minister of Science, Technology and Research of Sri Lanka Mr. Lakshman Senewiratne, who arrived to JINR accompanied by Head of the Department of technology of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research Mr. Patabendi Maddumage Dharmatilake and Second Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation Mr. Dulmith Waruna. The visit was held in the frames of the third JINR’s international training course “JINR Expertise for Member States and Partner Countries” and began with acquaintance with the the flagship project of JINR – the superconducting heavy ion collider NICA.
During the visit, negotiations with JINR Director academician Victor Anatolievich Matveev were held. The State Minister visited facilities of the JINR research infrastructure and the University Centre of JINR. The results of the visit were summed up at the meeting with JINR Vice-Director Richard Lednický. Mr. Lakshman Seneviratne noted that the programme of the delegation’s visit to JINR was interesting and rich; he also shared his positive impressions and expressed confidence in continuation of contacts. In conclusion, the parties signed a memorandum confirming a mutual interest in development of cooperation and intention to undertake further consultation to specify thematic areas and forms of interaction.
This visit of the Sri Lanka delegation was preceded by the visit to JINR of Minister of Science, Technology and Research Mr. Susil Premajayantha two months earlier in the frames of the guest workshop of the ATOMEXPO-2017, as well as by the subsequent working-level consultations of JINR with the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Russia.
