Visit of Rwanda delegation: new cooperation opportunities for JINR

On 20 June 2018, a delegation from the Republic of Rwanda accompanied by a representative from the State Corporation ROSATOM visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The delegation headed by Andrew Nyamvumba, Head of Strategy and Policy Office of the President of the Republic of Rwanda, included representatives of line ministries as well as the Embassy of Rwanda in Russia.
In the framework of negotiations, detailed information about JINR, its major fields of activities, scientific achievements and objects of the research infrastructure was presented to the delegation. The programme of the visit included also an excursion to the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics where the guests got acquainted with the potential of the spectrometer complex of the IBR-2 reactor, fields of scientific activities of the Laboratory among which research of the Department of Neutron Activation Analysis and its application attracted much of the visitors’ attention.
The visit was concluded by the meeting with JINR Vice-Director Richard Lednický and discussion of possible areas, formats and mechanisms of cooperation with JINR. As the head of the Rwanda delegation noted, the government of his country is keenly interested in learning from the world experience of using peaceful nuclear energy and fundamental science for stimulating economic development. In this regard, the experience of JINR and cooperation with JINR, primarily in the fields of training of the scientific staff and technology transfer, can bring Rwanda great opportunities for accelerated growth.
