The JINR Directorate deeply regrets to announce, that on 13 October 2016 in Kraków, the outstanding Polish physicist and science organizer, Academician of the Polish Academy of Sciences Andrzej Hrynkiewicz passed away. He was JINR Vice-Director (1966–1968), member of the JINR Scientific Council (1970–2008), Plenipotentiary representative of Poland in JINR (1991–2007), three times laureate of the State Atomic Energy Council of Poland, Honorary Doctor of the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research, the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, the AGH University of Science & Technology in Kraków and the Mikołaj Kopernik University in Toruń.

He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and Order of Friendship (in Russia), as well as the Armia Krajowa Cross and the Knight Cross Polonia Restituta Order (in Poland).
Dubna scientists and Polish physicists have lost a true friend and colleague. The fond memory of Andrzej Hrynkiewicz will remain forever in our hearts.
