On 26 July, the 8th International Student Summer School “Nuclear Physics – Science and Applications” (NUCPHYS-SC&APPL) started in Brasov, Romania.

On the first day of the school, participants were welcomed by Protector of the Transylvanian University of Brasov, Liliana Rogozea and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Marius Moga. Welcoming and introductory lectures were given by Plenipotentiary Representative of Romania at JINR, Florian Buzatu, and Vice-Director of JINR, Richard Lednický. The programme of the first day also included lectures by F. Negoita, D. Prinariu, V. Shvetsov, and G. Stratan.

Over 70 students from 10 countries (Armenia, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, and Ukraine) are participating in the School.
