News, 27 April 2018
On 25 April, high-school students from Tver visited JINR. They had an excursion to the Museum of History of Science and Technology of JINR and to the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics. Participants of the excursion were school students from 8 to 11 grades who are winners of Olympiads in physics and who are just keen on science.
The acquaintance with the Institute began at the JINR Museum of History of Science and Technology of JINR. A. Rastorguev gave a talk on the history of development of accelerators and the principle of their operation. A. Zlotnikova and K. Kozubsky presented the “History”, “Future”, and “Experimentarium” exhibition halls and gave an overview of the Museum’s items as well as told the students the story of how they had gotten there.
In the way of continuation of the excursion, the students visited the Synchrophasotron and the Nuclotron building accompanied by O. Kunchenko. At the end of the excursion, guided by M. Shandov and A. Shemchuk, the students visited the hall of assembling and testing of superconducting magnets for the NICA complex which is now under construction. It is worth mentioning, that the students were well prepared for the visit, for they had watched the film “NICA – Universe in the Lab” and had prepared questions to the JINR staff members, which they were able to ask during the excursion.
