On 28 July 2017, Dubna was visited by Minister of health of the Russian Federation Veronika Skvortsova, accompanied by State Duma Deputy, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Health Protection Committee Natalia Sanina and Deputy Chairman of the Moscow region Government Olga Zabralova.

The Minister was welcomed by City Mayor V.B. Mukhin and the leadership of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. JINR was represented by JINR Director V.A. Matveev, Assistant Director G.D. Shirkov, Chief Scientific Secretary of the Laboratory of High Energy Physics JINR D.V. Peshekhonov, and Head of the JINR Social Infrastructure Management Office A.V. Tamanov.

Being acquainted with JINR, the guests visited the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics, where they were acquainted with the flagship project of the Institute – the accelerator complex under construction NICA. The guests paid special attention to JINR expertise in the fields of proton therapy of cancer diseases, as well as to the Medico-Technical Complex of JINR.

During the meeting, the Joint Institute has submitted a proposal to significantly expand the application of its experience in the field of proton therapy and to build a specialized medical proton therapy center in Dubna. Establishment of such a centre will provide more extensive medical assistance to a large number of patients and greatly expand application of the expertise and technology of the Medico-Technical Complex, which now is limited and can afford only about 100 patients a year.

After the visit to JINR, the guests got acquainted with enterprises of the medical and technological cluster of the Moscow region, which are residents of the Special Economic Zone “Dubna”.
