The first meeting of the expert working group on research and innovations within BRICS

On August 17, 2015, in the International Conference Hall in Dubna the first meeting of the expert working group on research and innovations within BRICS was held. It is one of 5 working groups of the Council for Science, Technology and Innovations within BRICS the chairman of which is the Deputy minister of science and education of the Russian Federation Lyudmila Ogorodova.
At the meeting of the Council which took place on August 4, 2015 in the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the working groups made presentations of the strategic directions for further work. "Now", – as Lyudmila Ogorodova noted, – "it is required to develop specific proposals on "common ground" directly with the organizations, scientific institutions of the countries of BRICS for achievement of concrete results in all spheres of scientific, technical and innovative cooperation".
As the main perspective activities the Council highlighted: organization of forum for young scientists of BRICS, cooperation in biotechnology and people health, formation of a platform for research and innovative activity, creation of technological forecast of BRICS for climatic systems, joint researches in the field of food security, a sustainable development of agriculture, energy production, medicine, the prevention of emergency situations, and also development of partnership with other strategic subjects in developing countries.
Within a meeting in Dubna the formation of a documents package for the forthcoming meeting of Ministers of science of the countries of BRICS on technologies and innovations were discussed. The meeting is planned to be held on October 27-28, 2015 in Moscow. The project will also include the declaration, developed in cooperation of the Ministries of science, technology and innovations of BRICS, and also the draft of the working plan of BRICS for science, technologies and innovations for 2015-2018.
For participants of a meeting an excursion to the Baldin and Veksler Laboratory of Physics of High Energy (to the accelerating NICA complex, factory of superconducting magnets, which is under construction at the moment) was organized.
