International recognition of the discovery of the 114th and 116th elements of the Mendeleev Periodic Table of Elements was celebrated on 2 September 2011 at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions. The discovery was announced by the journal «Pure and Applied Chemistry» at the beginning of the summer, but proclamation of the long-expected event was made at a joint JINR Seminar on 2 September 2011 at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions. A conference hall was overcrouded. FLNR Scientific Leader Academician Yu.Ts.Oganessian presented a report about the history and prospects of the discovery of new superheavy elements.
