The Helmholtz International Summer School

Education, 27 August 2012

The Helmholtz International Summer School “Dense Matter in Heavy-Ion Collisions and Astrophysics” (DM 2012) is being held at the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics on August 28 – September 8 2012. About 60 physicists from Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Croatia and JINR participate in the School.

The School is focused on the problem of the appearance of novel phases of matter where symmetries encoded in the QCD Lagrangian get (partly) restored and/or due to the internal quantum numbers of QCD degrees of freedom (color, flavor and spin) new collective phenomena might occur. As a profound theoretical basis for the description of the equation of state and transport properties of QCD matter and the phase transformation between hadronic and quark degrees of freedom this School will provide series of lectures on nonperturbative quantum field theories and many-body physics of strong interactions applied to this problem. Another part of the lectures will be devoted to the discussion of observable signals for QCD phases in heavy-ion collisions like those planned at FAIR Darmstadt and NICA Dubna. Lectors of the School are famous experimentalists and theorists of the leading research centers.

BLTP Director V. Voronov and representatives of the School Organizing Committee A. Philippov, A. Sorin and D. Blaschke welcomed participants at the opening of the School.

The School is organized by JINR in the frames of the scientific-educational project “DIAS-TH: Dubna International Advanced School for Theoretical Physics” with the financial support of the Helmholtz Association, Dinasty Foundation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
