Guests from Japan are interested in the NICA project

A delegation of the Embassy of Japan in Russia of Science Attaché Koji Kamitani and Assistant of the Division of Technology Management Yuko Tsuda visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research on 19 December 2012.

JINR Vice-Director R.Lednický, JINR Chief Scientific Secretary N.A.Russakovich, Head of International Cooperation Department D.V.Kamanin, VBLHEP Deputy Director Yu.K. Potrebenikov, and member of International Cooperation Department A.A.Kotova met the guests in the JINR Directorate. The purpose of the visit of the delegation was acquaintance with JINR and prospects of its further development, with the mega-project NICA, and also discussion of cooperation of Japan and JINR institutions.

The guests were especially interested in educational opportunities of JINR, JINR’s experience and plans in hadron therapy; prospects for construction of the International Linear Collider were discussed. The guests got acquainted with the accelerator complex Nuclotron/NICA at the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics.

In view of intensity of scientific exchange of the last decade and a wide range of common interests with a number of research centers in Japan the JINR Directorate suggested to the Japanese side to explore possibilities of further development of cooperation and, as a matter of priority, participation of Japan in the NICA project.
