News, 11 April 2013

Traditional XVII Scientific conference of young scientists and specialists was held this year in nontraditional timescales – instead of the usual February it was in April. The fact is that the conference was devoted to the centenary of the birth of Venedict Dzhelepov celebrated on 12 April. That is why most of plenary sessions were of memorial nature. And participants were fully traditional – students, PhD students and young scientific researchers of Russian universities and institutes: State Universities of Saint-Petersburg, Tver, Federal Universities of Yaroslavl and the Urals, MEPhI, MIET, Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, the University "Dubna", Universities and researhs centers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Ukraine, young scientists and specialists from JINR.

JINR Chief Scientific Secretary N.A. Russakovich, who worked for many years at DLNP together with V.P. Dzhelepov opened the conference. DLNP current Director A.G. Olshevski started his report from history of foundation of the laboratory. LRB Director E.A. Krasavin started his report from another memorable date – the launch of the first Soviet satellite in 1957.

The conference will conclude today – not only with the traditional competition for JINR Prize for young scientists but also with memorial reports of S.S. Gershtein (IHEP), L.I. Ponomarev (National Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute") and demonstration of a documentary devoted to V.P. Dzhelepov.
